Pulpal Debridement
Endodontic debridement is a procedure that removes bacteria and damaged nerve tissue from the root canal of a tooth.

During debridement, the tissue in the root of the tooth removed and the canals are widened to ensure remove of all bacteria tissue. The canal is also irrigated with a sodium hypochlorite solution to wash out debris, dissolve organic tissue, and kill microorganisms.

Debridement is the first step in root canal treatment, but most importantly it relieves the symptoms of a pulpal infection causing tooth pain and swelling.

Debridement is an important procedure to remove infected tissue and bacteria from the tooth. It ensures that the canal is completely debrided and disinfected.

Endodontic treatment is generally successful, with reported success rates of 86–98%. Following pulpal debridement, the root canal must be finished by filing the canals.
